Adam Parker Smith
Art
Adam Parker Smith is a New York based sculpture and installation artist.
Using a carefully curated inventory that one might come across at a Michael's or Hobby Lobby–think faux florals, mylar balloons, and plastic laminate sheets posing as "wood grain" or "marble"–he assembles collages wall-mounted on steel frames, where they are displayed like garish corsages of decorative and commercial detritus. Recalling his 2013 show Thanks at Lu Magnus Gallery in which he presented a collection of items "discreetly acquired" from a series of artists' studios, it's clear that Smith has a knack for bringing together disparate objects, re-contextualizing them for his own visual statements.
